Geography and Location
Point Edward is a small community located in Sarnia-Lambton, Ontario, Canada. It is situated on the north shore of Lake Huron and has a population of approximately 1,900 residents according to the 2016 census. The area is part of the larger city of Sarnia but maintains its own distinct casino Point Edward identity.
Economic History
Point Edward’s economy was traditionally driven by industry, particularly during the late 19th century when it served as an important hub for lumber and shipping activities in the Great Lakes region. However, with the decline of the forestry and manufacturing sectors, Point Edward has since transitioned towards a more service-oriented economy.
In recent years, tourism has become increasingly significant to the local economy due to its scenic location on Lake Huron’s north shore. The community offers various recreational activities such as boating, fishing, and bird-watching that attract visitors from surrounding areas.
Point Edward Casino
A notable attraction in Point Edward is the Caesars Windsor (formerly known as the Casino Windsor) neighbor, but actually located near Sarnia border and the Blue Water Bridge it’s close to but not part of. There is a smaller casino called the Little River Casino Resort situated within the town limits.
The Little River Casino Resort operates under a license granted by the Ontario government in 1999, allowing for both gaming operations and entertainment venues such as restaurants and live music spaces.
History
Located near Point Edward’s downtown area stands an old stone cottage known as ‘Hattie’s house’. Constructed around the early nineteenth century during settlement era. It serves now a cultural place hosting events & celebrations organized by local residents promoting tourism in the town
Other Attractions
The nearby St Clair Tunnel which connects Point Edward to Sarnia on the other side of Lake Huron is notable for being one of several major shipping routes under construction since 1993.
In terms of attractions, there are walking trails that lead to scenic areas overlooking Lake Huron. They allow residents and visitors alike an opportunity to appreciate the town’s natural surroundings.
